The Path to Publishing Story
Janet Salmons has worked with countless graduate students to develop their doctoral dissertations. She listened to students and alumni express the same fears and frustrations over and over: they wanted to get their work published, but didn’t know how to get started. They weren’t clear about which types of publications would help them advance in their professional or academic lives. After offering a series of webinars on these topics, Janet decided to expand on the ideas and develop a typology of publication options.
When thinking about what to do next, she immediately thought of Helen Kara, an independent scholar with a creative bent and an extensive publication experience. They launched a collaborative effort that weaves both sets of skills and reflects both UK and US approaches to doctoral studies.
Janet and Helen wrote the book, Publishing from Your Doctoral Research, drawing on their collective experience with doctoral students and lessons learned from publishing and presenting their own work in a wide variety of forms.
